My regular collaborator Vanessa Godden is taking care of admin and research tasks for me and they are making my life so much easier. I love not having to think about sending emails.

Sound engineer! Musician & producer Waryaa will be handling the recording and mastering/editing for the narration in the game. I am so glad he is willing to use his musical producing skills to produce what is essentially a choose your own adventure audio book.

Voice actor! Performance artist & musician James Knott will be voicing the main (two?) characters of the game. She is so talented and I am so excited to hear what she will do with this depressing little script.

I found a different way to make cutscenes for VR, I hope the format of just being dropped into an environment as a cutscene will be effective, we will see. I think the game will be greatly influenced by script, narration and sound, which is hilarious because I am so much more confident in my ability to make visuals.

I will probably do the animation in blender and import it into unity, from what I have so far it’s been working well, I think it looks cool so far.

What I have so far:

Game mechanics: I have the gameplay coded and everything. It was really fun, I like coding. I’m not so good at it but hey it works.

3D Models: I have some very nice models for the set of the game, a space ship and space station.

What I need to do:

Make all the cutscene environments: this is scary to me. I have to use existing assets for this because I just don’t think there will be time to model everything myself which is okay and normal even but obviously I am a control freak and would like to do it all myself. But I’ve got to be realistic now since I have a firm deadline.

Make soundtrack: I should probably outsource this but I want to try to do it myself. I will have to come up with a deadline for when I will need to have it done or find a new solution. I think it will be okay though, it’s all ambient music and I have a few musical notes already. I wanted to have a lot of motifs that could build on each other relating to specific ideas but I’m not sure if that will work.

Put it all together: Add the narration and music to the game, make sure everything works together.

There will be a lot of game testing soon hopefully! I have already started to make everyone who visits my house play the game in whatever capacity it is ready when they’re around. So far I’ve received good feedback, even with very minimal gameplay and script, but maybe my friends are just being nice to me.

I don’t know if this is really devlog 1 but this is an update on what’s been going on since I made the first post introducing the project.
